One of the largest theme park chains in North America, Cedar Fair, is set to add to its attractions lineup at several of its theme parks in 2017. The company promises that 2017 will be one of their biggest and best years yet, and with parks all across the country set to receive new additions, that seems set to be the case. Let’s take a peek at what’s coming up…
Arguably the biggest news is that of the new coaster coming to Kings Island in the form of Mystic Timbers, the park’s fourth wooden roller coaster. With a top speed of 53mph, Mystic Timbers will be themed around a trip through a haunted forest and is currently being promoted with the hashtag #WhatsInTheShed. California’s Great America will also add a new roller coaster experience, albeit a re-themed one when their stand-up coaster Vortex is re-themed to Patriot. The stand-up cars will be removed and replaced with floorless trains, giving a new lease of life to this classic coaster.
One of the most abundant selections of new rides will be coming to Carowinds, who will open a new County Fair themed area complete with four new flat rides: top scan Electro-Spin, wave swinger Zephyr, himalaya Rock ‘N’ Roller and troika Do-Si-Do. The park’s boomerang coaster Carolina Cobra will also be renamed The Flying Cobras to fit into the classic county fair themeing of the new area. Various other parks are also due to receive new flat rides, with Soaring Timbers, a Mondial Inferno and the first ride of its kind in North America, to debut at Canada’s Wonderland, along with star flyer North Star at Valleyfair and new dodgems and troika Kaleidoscope at Dorney Park.
While these are the major theme park ride installations and enhancements coming next year, there are plenty of other features coming too, including enhancements to water parks at several of the resorts, new accomodation and new shows. Since I’m focusing on the rides side of things here I won’t be covering them in detail, but all the information can be found on the various parks’ sections on the Cedar Fair website, so I’d encourage you to check those out if you’re interested.
With such a wide variety of thrilling rides being added, it really does look like 2017 is shaping up to be a great year for Cedar Fair. Whichever part of North America you’re visiting or you call home, there’s sure to be a healthy dose of FUN within driving distance from you.
