With all the shocking and harrowing stuff in the news right now regarding the Dreamworld accident, I thought it would be a nice change to concentrate on something new and exciting coming to an Australian theme park in the near future. This was something I first read about probably a month ago, and I was waiting for more details to be revealed before I blogged about it, so you’ll have to bear with me as I don’t have a huge amount right now. But here’s what I got…
So Warner Bros. Movie World (which is literally 3 miles away from aforementioned Dreamworld) is currently working on a new roller coaster to debut in 2017. As I said in the intro there aren’t very many details currently known about this coaster, but what I can tell you is that it is being developed by Mack Rides and has an RCDB classification of ‘Extreme’, their highest thrill classification for a coaster. This will be Movie World’s sixth roller coaster and will join the likes of iconic rides such as Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster, Superman Escape and the latest addition Green Lantern Coaster which opened in December 2011.
In terms of the themeing of this coaster, I’m curious to see what they do in that respect. Warner Bros. Movie World might as well be called DC Comics World with all the enhancements that have gone on over the last few years. This year they opened their new Super-Villains Unleashed themed area with the flat ride Doomsday Destroyer, and I think it would be a fairly safe bet to assume that the new coaster would continue this theme. That said, they do already have a super-villains themed roller coaster in Arkham Asylum: Shock Therapy (which now features virtual reality, woohoo…), so whether they’ll add another one remains to be seen. I guess it would be fairly cool to have two hero-themed coasters and two villain-themed coasters battling it out for supremacy, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Further details about this new coaster, including its opening date, should be revealed as we head into 2017 – Movie World have a bit of a penchant for opening new coasters in December, so don’t expect anything too soon, but again we’ll have to keep a look-out to see what develops. Stay tuned for further news and updates as more information becomes available.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of your stay here at Along for the Ride.
