A couple of weeks ago I talked about the new attraction for Universal Studios Florida, Race Through New York starring Jimmy Fallon, which is to open next year and replace the old Twister attraction. A few more details have now become apparent about this upcoming ride, which I plan on sharing with you today.
You probably noticed that I referred to it as the ‘Jimmy Fallon ride’ in the title of this post rather than Race Through New York; it does indeed look like the queue and pre-show of the ride, at the very least, will be heavily themed around the Tonight Show. We’ll travel through a replica of NBC Studios, see iconic moments from the show’s history and get “up-close and personal with some of the show’s most hilarious segments”. Which is great, if you’re a fan of American TV, or comedy in general, or even Jimmy Fallon I guess. Maybe I’m just a stick in the mud.
Anyways, fortunately it looks like the ride itself is still going to be separate from the Tonight Show, and it appears that guests will be racing through New York against Jimmy Fallon rather than alongside him, meaning it may be a true race after all. Will we see multiple different routes and endings? In this day and age it’s not beyond the realms of possibility, but nothing has been clarified yet. What we do know is that the ride will feature iconic NYC landmarks like the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty (and probably NBC Studios as well) and will culminate with a trip to the Moon. Interesting…
If you’re anything like me, then you’re probably thinking the same thing I was when I read all this. Doesn’t this all sound a bit like “Soarin’ Over New York”, but maybe a bit more intense and comedic? Even the ride itself is billed as “the world’s first flying theater”, again something I believe Soarin’ has been doing for the last decade, and with a capacity of 72 guests it even matches up pretty evenly in that respect. I do like Soarin’ the ride a lot, so if this is anything like that then I can’t say I’ll be disappointed. I just hope it doesn’t try and be too funny as I think this could spoil what otherwise could be quite an enjoyable attraction.
Work is still being put in to the new Race Through New York attraction, so look out for further details leading up to its opening. The next couple of years should see some pretty big changes coming to the whole Universal Orlando resort, and I for one am looking forward to seeing where they take this from here on out.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of your stay here at Along for the Ride.
